Waterparks are great places to visit when it's hot outside and you badly need to cool off. Although there are multiple types, there are a few tips to keep in mind for you and your family. When you have the right supplies and follow a few basic guidelines, your visit can be even better. So if you and your family are heading out to play on some water-themed slides and rides, keep these tips in mind.
First, travel light. Although most locations have lockers - for a fee - there really isn't that much room for storage. You don't want to get stuck lugging around supplies, so make sure you really need whatever you bring along. All you really need are the basics including towels, sun block, sunglasses, water and flip flops. You and your family should wear your swimsuits there and any cover-up should be simple and lightweight. Come prepared, but remember that the rental lockers aren't that big and you can't go on the slides and rides with your arms full of gear.
Timing is everything. It may be tempting to visit on the hottest day of the year, but that is when the waterparks are at their busiest. Don't visit when it's raining out because you won't be able to go on all the rides. But if you visit on a somewhat cooler or slightly overcast day, the potential threat of inclement weather may keep many visitors away. Whenever you go, make sure you arrive early to secure your spot at the big wave pools and to get a head start on lines.
Don't forego sunblock. Even though it might seem you don't need it, make sure you not only wear it but bring the bottle along. Sunblock only lasts for a set amount of time, especially in the water. Apply it at least thirty minutes before you will actually be out in the sun to make sure it's working before your skin is exposed. Reapply at regular intervals throughout the day to prevent a burn later in the day. The combination of the hot sun and the reflective surface of the water can create serious burns. Don't assume you won't burn; wear sunblock!
Be ready to wait. Even if you arrive early, the crowds will eventually follow and you'll have to wait in lines. Be patient and have fun! Also, come up with a meeting place inside the park so that if you are separated from your kids or friends you can easily find one another. When you get there, mark your seats with inexpensive belongings like an old towel to make sure you have a place to sit. Seats fill up fast and you'll be left without a place to relax
And finally, take into consideration what you are going to wear. A one-piece for women is wise so it will stay in place on the rides and slides. You want your suit to stay on you, not to fly off in the water. It is also a good idea to wear waterproof shoes to protect your feet. Not only do they offer protection while you are in the water but they also protect your feet from the hot pavement. Spending time at area and themed waterparks is a great way to cool off on hot days. Have a great time building lasting memories with your family and friends.
